coca cola enterprises cce will soon be introducing &lsquoplantbottle&rsquo packaging in uk, which will contain both recycled pet which is commonly known as rpet and plastic derived from a byproduct of sugar production, named plantpet. while speaking at the publication of cce&rsquos corporate responsibility and sustainability report 201011, patrick mcguirk, who is the cce recycling director, mentioned that the innovative packaging material would include up to 30 plantpet and about 2223 rpet, the remains being virgin pet. patrick further said that they are replacing oilbased, virgin material, with plantbased material, and the company is very excited for that. they are going to get the real scale to that and they will declare the details of that in the few coming weeks. packs will start to make an appearance on the market around about september time. patrick also said that they believe this is completely innovative, a breakthrough. what the company eventually look at is a voyage towards a pack, which has yet higher recycled content as well as even higher plantbased material. company see that as the future, he further added. chemically, the rpet is identical to plantpet, and the innovative packaging has been operational through the sort line at eco plastics in lincolnshire, who cce have united with to create a joint venture company that will provide cce with rpet over the next 10 years. in simple words, this means that the new packs can be segregated in plastics recycling facilities, and the new packaging reprocessed as rpet, in order to shut the recycling loop. this innovative packaging format will help cce minimize the carbon footprint of its packaging. along with this, it is working on a campaign to emphasize the sustainability of the new packaging, to motivate consumers to recycle their bottles. plantbottles have already been introduced in other nations. mcguirk also said the building work on its partnership plastics recycling plant with eco plastics. cce has invested &pound5 million equity in this plant, started around six weeks ago, and this will also start up an education facility on site. the plant is to help cce accomplish its target of using 25 rpet in its plastic bottles. he further added that they will look at other investments, as well. pet was possibly the section of the recycling infrastructure that was struggling most in the united kingdom but there are other sectors that they will look at, and if it can be important, they will invest in it, as well. now, that is very much the challenge that they have put out to the waste management sector and to the recycling industry to say they are ready to associate, if there is a division of the chain that is not working currently that relates to coca cola then they will come ahead, they will get their expertise and where it makes sense they will also invest against that. in addition to the its new packaging, cce declared it was investing &pound1.75 million on the acquisition of another 13 biomethane vehicles, following the accomplishment of its testing running a heavy duty truck on biomethane derived from landfill gas, supplied by gasrec. the trial verified a 50 carbon emission reduction as compared to a usual standard diesel vehicle. in enfield, the company will also put in place the correct refuelling infrastructure so that its fleet of 14 vehicles can be functional in london by next year. source of information httpwww.mrw.co.uknewscocacolatolaunchsustainableplasticbottlepackaginginuks…
