Clinique's New Packaging Celebrates Women All Month

Clinique celebrates women all month with its limited edition packaging that debuted for International Women's Day.

Two of the brand's best-sellers—its moisturizer and makeup remover—are decorated with a bold uplifting illustration by artist Elen Winata.

Clinique is celebrating nearly 55 years of beauty this year. The brand continues its mission to create “great skin for all” by featuring diverse and multigenerational women across its channels.

Clinique’s Limited Edition International Women's Day products are:

  • Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm—a silky balm makeup remover in a jar formulated to gently dissolve makeup, sunscreen, and pollutants with safflower seed oil.

  • Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+—a skin-softening moisturizing lotion in a bottle with a pump that strengthens the skin’s moisture barrier. It includes a blend of sunflower, cucumber, and barley.

The balm's jar is recyclable PET, and the cap features a PP liner with a metal overshell. The bottle is also recyclable PET.

It's not the first time Clinique commissioned an artist

It's not the first time Clinique commissioned an artist to adorn the packaging for a limited edition launch. Last October, Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm's jar was given a makeover to celebrate the Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos.

Like the current Women's Day design, a colorful illustration adorns the cap.

Clinique commissioned Mexican illustrator Melissa Zuniga for the project. Zuniga told Beauty Packaging, "For this design, I was inspired by the different traditions we have in Mexico for Day of the Dead—candles illuminate nights, candy skulls are everywhere, and people dress up like Catrina. Marigold flowers decorate homes and altars. Visually, everything for this holiday is beautiful."

How Clinique Adorns Its Limited Edition Packaging

Sameer Agarwal, vice president of marketing for Clinique NA, spoke to us about the jar decorated for the Day of the Dead for the feature story, Beauty Packaging ‘Sparks Joy,’ Rallies for a Cause—& More.

“The illustration was printed on an adhesive, which was pasted on the lid and used to seal the jar,” explained Agarwal. “The illustration and original packaging colors and style blend seamlessly,” Agarwal adds.

Will Clinique continue to use package design to celebrate special occasions?

Talking about its Day of the Dead packaging, Agarwal said, "Cultural moments such as Day of the Dead are great opportunities to join and celebrate the Latino community’s rich culture and heritage."

We assume it's the same for International Women's Day—and other celebrations. The right package design can ensure beauty brand remains relevant to consumers.
