THE CALPOL® BRAND TEAMS UP WITH TESCO FOR A NEW MEDICINE PACKAGING AND MATERIALS RECYCLING TRIAL

DEPOSITED ITEMS WILL BE COLLECTED BY MYGROUP, SPECIALISTS IN RECYCLING AND REUSING MATERIALS THAT ARE DESTINED FOR WASTE, AND TRANSFORMED INTO NEW OBJECTS THROUGH OUR SUBSIDIARY, REFACTORY.

REFACTORY CONVERTS PLASTIC WASTE INTO MYBOARD™, A COMPOSITE MATERIAL SIMILAR IN CONSISTENCY TO PLYWOOD, USED FOR THE PRODUCTION OF FURNITURE FOR COMMUNITY SETTINGS, SUCH AS CHAIRS AND DESKS FOR SCHOOLS.

The CALPOL ® brand has teamed up with Tesco for a new recycling trial to give people an easy way to dispose of hard-to-recycle medicine packaging and materials. With the trial running throughout Summer, shoppers can drop old CALPOL ® plastic syringes, blister packs, plastic medicine spoons and empty capped plastic medicine bottles at designated recycling units at select Tesco stores across the UK. And, for those not living near a participating Tesco store, the CALPOL ® brand has introduced a freepost option.

Small items such as bottles, medicine syringes, blister packs and spoons can sometimes be too small for the machinery at standard recycling facilities to sort, filter, and process, highlighting the need for the CALPOL ® brand and Tesco’s new initiative.

As the UK’s best-selling children’s medicine brand , we hear many stories of parents with CALPOL ® syringes that they don’t know what to do with, so we have listened and taken action.

While you can already add CALPOL ® product packaging and glass bottles to appropriate household recycling for kerbside collection, we know it can be tricky to ensure that smaller items such as plastic medicine syringes, blister packs and spoons are collected and recycled. That’s why we’re excited to collaborate with Tesco to give consumers a convenient way to dispose of their CALPOL ® materials. By launching this innovative trial, we’re helping to increase the chances of our plastic materials being recycled and used in new products such as plastic children’s tables and chairs, helping to protect our environment.

Charmaine England, Area Managing Director Northern Europe at Kenvue

We’re proud to be working with two giants in the FMCG space to recycle such a ubiquitous household product and others through our end-to-end processes. We will be giving new life to tons of hard-to-recycle material that would otherwise end up going to landfill or incineration.

Steve Carrie, Director, MYGroup

Shoppers can also use the recycling points to deposit plastic packaging, blister packs and spoons from other leading Kenvue medicine brands, including BENADRYL ®, IMODIUM ®, BENYLIN ® and more.

The new recycling trial with Tesco supports Kenvue, the makers of CALPOL ®, on its Healthy Lives Mission to build a healthier tomorrow for people and our planet. Kenvue is improving the sustainability of its products, packaging, and operations and investing $800 million by 2030 to support its ambitions.
