britannia garment packaging has opened a new production facility in dhaka, bangladesh, which it hopes will set a new precedent for the global garment industrythe new factory will include 120 staff occupying 70,000 square feet of factory floor, which includes a dedicated woven label building and modern equipment.britannia produces a range of packaging solutions for the garment industry, with a global network of production facilities spanning eight countries.it supplies a range of packaging and labelling products for leading fashion retailers, including debenhams, george at asda and the arcadia group.with ongoing criticism and concerns of the global garment industry, the company is investing heavily in the new facility.the latest production tracking technology installed will provide customers with complete visibility over exactly how and where their labels are made.group chief executive paul brownhill is leading the company&rsquos international expansion, and says the biggest single challenge facing our customers is ethical responsible sourcing.&ldquothe garment industry has changed on the back of recent disasters in bangladesh, and consumers and retailers alike are becoming increasing concerned about where items are sourced from.&rdquobritannia has been present in bangladesh for a decade, and brownhill says the facility is &ldquodesigned to provide the safest possible working environment&rdquo for britannia employees, while also meeting demands for expansion as the business grows.the single floor platform has been renovated in conjunction with the walmart compliance regulations, and all electrical wiring, fire protection equipment and exit doors meet stringent health and safety measures.jamil ahmed, managing director at britannia garment packaging, said the facility was one of the very few to have passed a new audit.&ldquoit&rsquos a great opportunity that we have here. auditors have been impressed with the factory&rsquos modern standards, which includes plenty of open space and greenery. we have space for three times our current capacity, so there is plenty of room for future expansion which will allow us to take on major customers.&rdquo&nbsp
