Absolut Group Launches Limited-Edition Warhol Vodka Bottles Inspired by Iconic Artwork

Pernod Ricard’s Absolut Group has unveiled its latest artistic limited-edition vodka bottles, the Absolut Warhol, continuing its tradition of blending art and spirits. The new packaging, inspired by a recently rediscovered Andy Warhol artwork, debuted exclusively in global travel retail on July 1, 2024, with availability in major airports such as London Heathrow and Dubai International.

Starting in September, the Absolut Warhol bottles will expand to retail and on-premise markets across 50 global locations. The limited edition consists of 2.2 million bottles available in both 700-ml and 1-L sizes.

The striking bottle design draws inspiration from Warhol's “blue,” an Absolut product portrait created in 1985. The artwork, whose whereabouts were unknown for decades, reappeared at an auction in Stockholm in 2020, sparking renewed interest. Warhol originally produced two pieces for Absolut: the well-known “Absolut Vodka” image and the lesser-known “blue,” which had fallen out of sight until its recent rediscovery.

Following the auction, The Spritmuseum in Stockholm verified the provenance of the artwork, confirming it as an original Warhol commissioned by Absolut. The painting, now part of the Absolut Art Collection, will be showcased at the museum in October 2024 as the centerpiece of a new Warhol exhibition.

The bottle's design features artistic blue brushstrokes, directly extracted from Warhol’s original painting, and is crafted using multi-layer screen printing to create a hand-painted texture. A QR code on the back of the bottle offers an interactive experience, providing a deeper insight into Warhol's collaboration with Absolut.
