Frugal Cup - Made from recycled paper and 4% PE

Designed for food and beverage products, the Frugal Cup is the only paper cup that can be recycled as part of the mainstream waste process and is made from recycled paper (96%) and a PE liner (4%).

The two elements easily separate during the standard recycling process so that the paperboard can be recycled again and the liner can be recycled or used for energy from waste.

At least 2.5 billion paper cups are used and thrown away each year in the UK for coffee alone but in 2017 less than 1 in 400 – just 0.25% – were getting recycled. In spite of public outrage, only 6% are recycled now.

The statistics are breathtaking, the waste enough to make you weep.

This is why the problem is so acute: conventional and compostable paper cups aren’t easily recyclable (whatever they claim) – they’re made from plastic-coated or PLA-coated virgin paperboard which doesn’t break down efficiently in the standard recycling or compostable process.

Frugal Cups are the solution. They’re made from recycled paperboard with no water-proofing chemicals and their food-grade liner separates easily in the standard recycling process.

They make a perfect replacement for on-the-go beverages and plastic food containers for yoghurt, noodles and other foods.

Unlike other paper cups, the Frugal Cup can be printed inside and outside to show off your brand.

Here’s what you need to know

Three sizes available for beverages: 8oz, 12oz, 16oz

Custom sizes available for food products (machine investment required)

Available in boxes of 500 (8oz and 12oz) and 400 (16oz) for beverages

Made from 96% recycled paper

Food-grade PE liner (removed in standard recycling process)
