Henkel Revolutionizes Packaging Sustainability with New Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool Adhesive

As the packaging industry faces rising CO2 emissions, stricter regulations, and increased consumer demand for eco-friendly solutions, Henkel Adhesive Technologies is stepping up with a groundbreaking answer. The company has introduced Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool, a bio-based hot melt adhesive that sets new standards for sustainable packaging by combining bio-based materials with low-temperature processing. This innovative adhesive promises to reduce energy consumption, improve safety for workers, and cut CO2 emissions by up to 32%.

Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool is the first product to merge Henkel's two successful adhesive technologies: the Supra Eco range, which uses bio-based materials, and the Supra Cool series, known for lower energy usage due to reduced application temperatures. The new adhesive contains at least 49% bio-based content and 30% ISCC-certified mass-balanced material, allowing companies to boost sustainability at both the raw materials and production levels.

One of the standout features of Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool is its ability to bond folding cartons, trays, and wrap-around packaging at temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius lower than traditional adhesives. This not only cuts energy consumption but also reduces the risk of burns and exposure to vapors for workers, making it a safer and more efficient option for manufacturers.

From an environmental perspective, Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool delivers significant benefits. By switching to this adhesive, companies can reduce their CO2 emissions by up to 7,500 kilograms annually, based on a typical adhesive usage of 7 tons per year. This reduction is equivalent to a 32% decrease in emissions when compared to conventional polyolefin-based hot melts, according to a cradle-to-gate analysis of the product’s carbon footprint.

Nele Gering, Sustainability Manager Europe at Henkel Consumer Goods Adhesives, highlights the growing pressure on companies to adopt sustainable practices. “Increasing regulations and consumer preferences for eco-friendly packaging are pushing businesses to innovate. We are proud to offer a solution like Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool that reduces CO2 emissions, enhances process efficiency, and is fully recyclable with paper materials.”

The new adhesive is also certified by the cyclos-HTP Institute, which specializes in testing the recyclability of packaging materials. This certification ensures that Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool is fully compatible with the paper recycling process, making it a robust option for responsible businesses seeking to align with circular economy practices.

As sustainability becomes a central concern for the packaging industry, Henkel’s Technomelt Supra 079 Eco Cool offers a timely and innovative solution for companies looking to reduce their carbon footprint, improve operational efficiency, and meet the increasing demands for eco-friendly packaging materials.
