FPA: Who is policing the continuing sale of banned single-use plastics by online retailers?

More than 20 days after the ban was introduced, banned items including plastic bowls, trays, plates, cutlery, balloon sticks, and Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) and Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) items – such as drink cups and food boxes – are still being openly sold direct to the public by Amazon, eBay, office suppliers and others.

The leading global manufacturer of surface treatment, Vetaphone A/S, will be exhibiting at the upcoming ChinaPlas trade fair when it returns to Shanghai after a six-year gap.  Due to be held at the city’s National Exhibition and Convention Centre (NECC) from 23rd to 26th April, ChinaPlas is set to attract visitors from across the whole Asian region.

Over 610 tons of plastic waste collected: Partnership between Greiner Packaging and Plastic Bank extended again

In 2019, Greiner Packaging launched its partnership with Plastic Bank by supporting the commissioning of five collection points in Manila, Philippines. The partnership was extended for the third time at the end of 2023. A total of over 610 tons of plastic have already been collected as part of the collaboration.

DS Smith develops innovative plastic-free industrial packaging for Bosch Home Comfort Group

DS Smith has developed a plastic-free solution for a gas boiler from Bosch Home Comfort Group.

While previous packaging solutions have required two EPS (Styrofoam) elements, the innovative solution developed by DS Smith for Bosch Home Comfort Group has eliminated all plastic packaging parts. This has resulted in the removal of 100,000 plastic components and is saving a total of 310 tons of CO2 emissions per year. The new plastic-free product innovation is also in line with the sustainability goals of Bosch Home Comfort Group, who requested that the design be fully recyclable.

Tomra markets new reverse vending machine line for improved retailer and consumer convenience

Part of the Basic Line, Tomra B5 Combi, is launching first in Ireland, the latest region to introduce a DRS, which went live in February. The system requires retailers to take back drink containers and refund deposits as part of the country’s efforts to reduce litter and increase recycling rates.

Gudbrand Arnesen, head of product management at Tomra Collection, tells Packaging Insights that in the Basic Line, Tomra offers compact and flexible solutions specifically for smaller stores with lower volumes of container returns.

Ecover introduces sustainable laundry capsules with eco-packaging

With a 45-year history of driving sustainability in the cleaning industry, Ecover’s newest offering not only provides effective cleaning solutions but also emphasises eco-friendly packaging.

Packaged in boxes made from 90% recycled cardboard and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, each box contains either 18 or 34 capsules, offering consumers a convenient and eco-friendly laundry solution.

69% of Amazon customers prefer orders with minimal packaging

More than two thirds of Amazon customers in India would prefer to receive their orders without any cardboard boxes or paper bags, according to a study by the e-commerce giant. “Customers are happiest to receive items such as clothing apparel, detergent and stationery in the manufacturer’s original packaging, with just the addition of an address label,” the study said.

TotalEnergies Lubrifiants and BERICAP join forces to launch a new closure made from recycled plastic

TotalEnergies Lubrifiants’ 20-liter premium lubricant cans made in France and Belgium will be fitted with the new closures made from 50% PCR material.

Fully embodying a circular/closed-loop approach, the raw material processed by BERICAP into can closures for TotalEnergies Lubrifiants comes from TotalEnergies’ own circular polymer range RE:clic. rPE57525 combines mechanically recycled polyethylene with a high-performing booster to achieve virgin-like performances. By switching from the current DIN 60 standard closure to DIN 60 ECO, weight savings come to 25%.
