Packaging specialist adapa has the knack when it comes to packing confectionery such as toffees, soft caramels or sweets in an efficient and resource-saving way. Following the certification bodies and the future expectations of the paper industry closely, adapa was able to launch a paper-based twist wrap that not only works on highspeed packaging lines but has also been certified as repulpable by the renowned CEPI standard: the PaperTwister(re).

Efficiency and certified recyclability unrivalled combined

Britain’s fourth-largest supermarket is working with recycling firm TerraCycle to encourage customers to recycle their empty medicine packets made from plastic and aluminium foil.

TerraCycle will convert the materials, which would otherwise be disposed of in general waste, into a recycled raw material which can then be used in the production of new products – such as nuts and bolts from the aluminium, or plastic waste bins and outdoor furniture.

In a noteworthy collaboration, TerraCycle® and Earthborn Holistic® have joined forces to introduce a complimentary recycling initiative for pet owners. This program encompasses the recycling of Earthborn Holistic®, Venture™, and Unrefined™ pet food and treat bags.

The aluminium bottle is the latest in Baileys’ journey towards sustainable production which begins with the cows and farms from which it sources its creams all the way to its packaging and design in Ireland. Baileys is a certified B Corp company.

The aluminium bottle is five times lighter than the traditional 70cl glass bottles and represents a -44% reduction in carbon footprint, as validated by EcoAct Product Carbon Footprint Analysis.

Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources in Lagos, Nigeria, took to Twitter to announce a ban on Styrofoam and other single-use plastics in the state, effective immediately. Vendors and distributors of polystyrene foam packaging were given a three-week window to clear their existing stock before enforcement began. Ministry representatives have been actively engaging with market vendors to raise awareness about the ban and its impending enforcement.

The cardboard wrap on Greiner Packaging’s K3 cardboard-plastic combination provides stability, so that the cup can be produced with “particularly” thin walls. The packaging producer claims that using less plastic than other solutions delivers a reduced CO2 footprint.

The cup and wrap can be easily separated, facilitating recyclability. As the cup is white or transparent, it produces high-quality recyclates that are not contaminated by ink.

The new-look packaging solution for Coles Unique Selection mandarins will avoid the use of 11,700 kilograms of plastic in one year and can be recycled kerbside.

With more than one million of the paper bags expected to be sold between April and October this year, Coles general manager Fresh Produce Charlotte Gilbert said the packaging update was proof the retailer was looking to reduce waste and make recycling more convenient and accessible for its customers.
