C&T is acutely aware of the pressure that die makers and carton converters are facing as a result of inflation and is invested in implementing new ways to reduce manufacturing costs. Lean manufacturing is a method that focuses on minimising waste and maximising productivity within the manufacturing process.

The container, called Piranha™, is sealed using a series of raised teeth that run around the sealing flange instead of applying a layer of polyethylene or adhesive, which are typically used to seal the lid of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP). The raised teeth maintain the seal's integrity even if the flange becomes contaminated by animal fat, which can interfere with closure on traditional packaging for meat, fish and poultry (MFP) products. 

Personal care products like shampoo come in liquid form, primarily for convenience. Rather than expect a consumer to spend a few moments lathering up a dry or solid cleanser, manufacturers offer shampoo or soap in liquid form. 

Nexus announced it has agreed to terms for an equity raise of $150 million. Cox Enterprises, focused on building the world's most innovative businesses in cleantech and environmental sustainability, led the round and will become the majority owner. These funds will support efforts to deliver on recycled-plastic commitments by accelerating the expansion of Nexus Circular's market-leading advanced recycling process.

Converting biological waste into resources is one of the keys of the circular economy, and the main objective of the European WaysTUP! Project, financed by the Horizon H2020 programme, is working on different lines of research to establish new value chains for the use of urban biowaste. Within the framework of this project, AIMPLAS, the Plastics Technology Centre, has produced a plastic film from used coffee grounds, thus transforming waste into a source of high-value products.

The recycling drop-off for Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam was from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Mayors’ Riverfront Park, 251 Mills St.

Volunteers will be set up in the parking lot of the park to help as community members are invited to drop off any amount of the EPS foam.

This type of foam is marked with a 6, but it is sometimes not labeled.

As of September 1, 2023, a fee will be charged on single-use packaging made of plastic or aluminium, or multi-material packaging with plastic or aluminium purchased in ready-to-eat meals. As with the fee applied on takeaway plastic packaging, the contribution will be of 0.30 cents, as provided for in the State Budget for 2021, and will be obligatorily itemised on the invoice.

In 2018, the United States generated 35.7 million tons of plastics, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). That’s the equivalent of approximately 6.1 million male elephants, each weighing six tons – or 13,000 pounds. As of 2018, over 75 percent of plastics produced in the U.S. ended up in the landfill. And according to research published in Our World in Data, plastic packaging is the leading source of global plastic waste generation.

The new Granupac packaging features ergonomically molded handles to make filling hoppers mounted on potato cultivation and bed forming equipment easier for operators. Syngenta claims that the design also eliminates stacking rings that were vulnerable to damage on the existing Nemathorin Surefills. 

Syngenta customer technical adviser, Caroline Linsdell, advises that growers will start to see the new packaging introduced on-farm during the 2023 planting season.
