Hoffmann Neopac, a global provider of high-quality packaging for pharma, beauty, and oral care, has introduced a first-of-its-kind range of post-consumer recycled (PCR) caps suitable for a wide variety of the company’s tube solutions in the personal care and beauty markets. At its inception, the new series will include recycled high-density polyethylene (rHDPE) screw caps from 19-40 millimeters in diameter, a flip-top cap 35mm in diameter, and an octagonal cap for sample tubes. Each is fully recyclable in existing HDPE streams. 

Dsposal says the Open 3P standard provides a common framework to help all the stakeholders involved in manufacturing, selling and recycling plastic packaging to share data with regulators and government agencies, as well as with each other.

The next phase of the project will see the Open 3P standard being expanded to cover all packaging materials – including glass, metals, paper and wood – as well as the development of a user-friendly, real-time data-sharing platform for the packaging value chain, Dsposal says.

Under the law, reusable packaging must be offered without extra charge, and customers informed with a clearly visible advertisement. However, these conditions were met by less than 24 per cent of nearly 700 catering establishments inspected across the country, Greenpeace added on Wednesday.

US fast food chains such as McDonald's and Burger King only offered reusable packaging for drinks and ice-cream, while Kentucky Fried Chicken did not even offer a reusable cup for drinks, Xinhua news agency reported.

For instance, Bormioli Pharma will present a new concept in ophthalmic drugs, a nebulizer (OptiMist) able to administer therapies, minimizing waste and making delivery easier and controllable through an app installed on smartphones.

Sebastian Rusu, head of brand planning & consumer communications at Yeo Valley Organic, tells PackagingInsights that the company wanted to “make sure that the packaging of [its] products is coming in as low impact as possible – this is why we’ve started this project.” He continued that the change will remove 145 metric tons of plastic annually – “that’s the equivalent of 188 Friesian cows, 24 African elephants or 17 tractors.” 

As of Jan. 1, Kyocera has changed the global packaging for its Gen and Shin Black series knives. The packaging is designed so that shoppers can see its color and grasp the knife handle through a slot in the packaging material. The inner part of the new packaging also has a recycled cardboard inlay (the old packaging material included a plastic blister).

To combat myths about deforestation and reduce consumption guilt, the new sustainability campaign emphasizes how our industry protects wildlife and habitats; creates innovative, renewable products; and supports the health of our planet through recycling and sustainability efforts. Using print, video, and social media ads, the P&PB's new campaign connects with the young and the young at heart through a world awash in color and relatable storytelling. This campaign alone has amassed almost 48 million video views across social media, CTV, and display platforms.

The jars also feature new graphics and a jar design with a new lid closure, the latter of which was made at Barilla’s manufacturing plants in Italy. Barilla also recently debuted a new pasta box without the plastic window to contribute to sustainability initiatives. The brand has expressed appreciation to Eviosys for its involvement in creating the new packaging design, contributing to the pesto range’s evolution.

The shift away from single-use plastics continues as USA-based manufacturing venture SustainaPac LLC joins PulPac’s growing licensee network. Employing the Dry Molded Fiber technology, SustainaPac intends to establish itself as a source of highly economical natural fiber, single-use food service packaging products for the growing North American QSR sustainability market.
