Parkside collaborates with fruit farm for compostable packaging

The packs are made with Parkside’s patented triplex Park2Nature material, which is TÜV certified as home-compostable within 26 weeks in normal composting conditions and 12 weeks in an industrial composting facility. The products are grown, processed and packed entirely on the New Forest Fruit Company’s farm in New Forest, Hampshire, ensuring minimal carbon footprint for each product.

The Japanese Government’s Resource Circulation Strategy for Plastics includes a target of transitioning to reusable or recyclable plastic designs by 2025. Milestones under the strategy for 2030 include that 60% of plastic containers and packaging should be reused or recycled, and that the recycling of plastic resources should be doubled. With 2025 as an important starting point toward those milestones, it will be essential to expand efforts for reuse and recycling on the way to 2030.

As part of its commitment to move toward zero plastic waste, the Government of Canada is proposing to develop a Pollution Prevention Planning Notice (P2 Notice) for plastic packaging that comes into direct contact with food, also referred to as primary food plastic packaging. The P2 Notice would require Canada's largest grocery retailers to prepare and implement a pollution prevention plan to meet targets to reduce, reuse, and redesign primary food plastic packaging, including recycled content targets.
