The initiative, organised by international non-governmental organisation (NGO) WasteAid and supported by sustainable packaging company Huhtamaki, aimed to give 18 waste collectors, in the Diepsloot community, north-east of Johannesburg, the skills, mentoring, and financial support they needed to improve their income. The programme culminated in a Dragon’s Den-style pitch day with the participants attempting to convince judges to help them turn their business ideas into a reality. But, after much deliberation, judges decided everyone was deserving of support.

It’s the ultimate in sustainable beauty packaging: a comprehensive, full-wood range with little or no plastic parts. Quadpack’s Woodacity® family has grown since the launch of the first pioneering fragrance cap in 2021. Solutions comprise award-winning closures that function without inners and refillable pack systems that can be easily dismantled. The full collection now includes lipsticks, compacts, jars and closures for perfume bottles, lotion packs and tubes.

Last year, Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based packaging manufacturer Graham Packaging partnered with environmental nonprofit GreenBlue on a pilot program allowing it to pursue multisite mass balance certification under the Recycled Material Standard (RMS), and after successful completion of the pilot, the company officially has achieved RMS certification for mass balance at two sites in York, Pennsylvania.

Coca-Cola HBC’s larger multipacks (10, 12, 20 and 24 cans) are now available in a new fully enclosed carton. This follows the introduction of Graphic Packaging’s new KeelClip™ late last year, which saw smaller multipacks (four, six and eight cans) transition to an innovative paperboard solution. Both packaging types were designed and developed by Graphic Packaging; in total, transitioning to these new secondary packaging solutions will eliminate 500 tonnes annually of hard-to-recycle shrink wrap plastic.

Every Prowrap product is responsibly sourced or produced at its state-of-the-art manufacturing hub in Bristol, UK. The operation recycles as much pre-consumer waste across films, foils and paper as possible, and the brand said that upgrading its packaging to fully recyclable cardboard represented the next responsible step on its journey.
