Retailers, both large and small, are facing rising challenges with price look-up (PLU) fraud at self-checkout, particularly in areas like produce, deli counters, and salad bars. A recent study reveals that retail shrink rates for businesses using self-checkout lanes are more than double the industry average, reaching nearly 4%¹. The fresh foods category is especially vulnerable to this kind of fraud, impacting profitability.

Movopack, a company providing eCommerce platforms with circular and sustainable packaging, has raised £2 million seed funding to launch in the UK via a partnership with Royal Mail.

The company’s first expansion outside of Italy aims to help tackle a growing packaging waste crisis, where an estimated 1.7 billion pieces of plastic are discarded weekly. 

French suncare brand Hei Poa offers products enriched with Monoi from Tahiti, evoking the Polynesian islands. However, the pandemic prompted a strategic pivot, expanding their distribution to retail channels to reach a wider audience. The brand is part of the innovative Rä Foods portfolio, known for bringing great-tasting, highly functional foods to the market.

KP Snacks has announced a further investment in flow wrap equipment to reduce plastic packaging across its Discos, Roysters and Frisps lines.

The supplier says the flow wrapping process will see a 35% plastic packaging reduction for six-packs across these three brands, equivalent to 100 tonnes of packaging saved annually.

This process is in line with the supplier’s People & Planet strategy to use as little packaging as possible.
