The product, called Earthfilm Butter-Wrap, is available in various barrier options.

Earthfilm Butter-Wrap utilises coated paper as a recyclable alternative to the butter wraps commonly used in the industry. According to the company, all coatings are eco-friendly water-based barriers, protecting from both grease and moisture.

Options for the butter wrap include standard Xtra – which features moisture barriers on both sides – and Ultra – comprised of a metallised film with a higher barrier and a metallised finish.

Ahead of the FACHPACK 2024, film manufacturer SÜDPACK unveiled its latest innovation: PET floatable lidding films. Used on mono-APET trays, the low-density, sealable top webs can be separated during recycling from the APET bottom webs, producing cleanly recycled materials for infeed into the differ-ent material flows. This offers a sustainable market alternative for safe pack-aging of sliced meat, ham and cheese in peelable, thermoformed and MAP packagings. The PET floatable lidding films provide equal performance and processing reliability to conventional lidding films.

From next month, the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket will replace the current non-recyclable packaging on block butter with a paper-based alternative wrap which can be recycled at home.

The change will roll out on its Specially Selected West Country and Yorkshire block butter, helping to remove more than 10 tonnes of non-recyclable packaging from circulation each year.

Aldi also recently replaced the outer plastic wrap for its Everyday Essentials cheese singles with a new paper packaging. This change eliminated a further 23 tonnes of plastic waste annually.

03 Sep 2024
PC Correspondent

All of Vegware’s single and double wall hot cups can be recycled as well as composted, where accepted.

Vegware explained that the main obstacle to boosting the recycling rate of paper cups is the ‘widespread misconception’ they cannot be recycled due to their plastic lining. In reality, paper cups are recyclable, but they must be collected separately from other materials to ensure they are properly processed for recycling.
