DS Smith partners with Filir to redesign packaging

The new packaging solution has been created by DS Smith designers to contain less materials and minimise waste. Key features include a locking system that is designed to prevent the chocolate boxes from being opened before use. The chocolate boxes are easy to assemble and fitted with a corrugated cardboard carry handle for additional versatility and usability.

CardBordeaux Bottle for Charles and Camilla

British sustainable packaging firm Frugalpac have produced a commemorative paper wine bottle to mark His Royal Highness King Charles III and Her Royal Highness His HxxQueen Camilla’s state visit to Bordeaux on Friday September 22.

The special paper Frugal Bottle is made from 94% recycled cardboard, has a carbon footprint six times lower than a glass bottle is five times lighter and can be recycled again.

HAK, the leading Dutch plant-based food producer, has recently opted to use SIG SafeBloc carton packs – a more sustainable packaging option compared to cans or glass jars* – to ensure its pulses products are optimally protected to retain their high quality over a prolonged period. The high share of renewable materials and resource-efficient carton packaging results in a significantly lower CO2 footprint*.

Smurfit Kappa Provides Sustainable Packaging For Brewer

The end-to-end packaging system, known as TopClip, is being used by pioneering Belgian craft brewer BeerSelect to aid in their sustainability goals.

The packaging company also provided the brewer with an automated machine system to efficiently package the beer in-house.

After examining the brewer’s operations, Smurfit Kappa installed its mid-speed TopClip machine. The device can handle 30,000 cans per hour and has proven effective with a number of small and medium sized drinks companies.

UPM Specialty Papers and Fazer develop a recyclable packaging solution without a plastic lining

The new Fazer Oat Rice Pie packaging is in line with both Fazer's Sustainable Packaging Vision and UPM's Biofore strategy. The new packaging solution is the result of more than two years of long-term development work to ensure the recyclability of the packaging without compromising food safety and the quality of the rice pies.

Rissmann banks on the advantages of "Made in Europe" boxes and packaging

Now a key player in custom-made premium cardboard packaging (paper carrier bags, folding cartons and rigid boxes), the company founded in Germany in 1855 had a purely family destiny until it was acquired in 2016 by vph GmbH & Co, a major German paper merchant and member of the IGEPA Group. Since then, Rissmann has worked to consolidate its market position with a focus on automation and sustainability, resulting in rapid sales growth to EUR 60 million in 2022, almost doubling the 2019 figure.

Keurig brewing up compostable K-Rounds as alternative to plastic coffee pods

  • Keurig Dr Pepper announced Wednesday that the future of its single-serve coffee pods includes plant-based, potentially compostable K-Rounds, an alternative to its polypropylene K-Cups.
  • The rounds consist of coffee grounds “pressed and wrapped in a proprietary, protective plant-based coating preserving the coffee’s flavor and aroma, eliminating the need for plastic or aluminum,” the company said.
