Koehler Paper and Wimbée Unveil First 100% Cardboard Cap for Aerosol Cans

In a major step toward sustainable packaging, Koehler Paper, a subsidiary of the Koehler Group, has partnered with French packaging manufacturer Wimbée to develop the first-ever 100% cardboard and paper cap for aerosol cans. This groundbreaking innovation was created for Héritage, the company behind well-known furniture care brand O'Cedar.

Designed specifically for outdoor venues, stadiums, events, clubs, and pubs where reusable cup systems have not yet been implemented, BioPak’s Beer BioCups provide a “better alternative to the large volume of disposable cups made from conventional plastic” used at such venues.

It is estimated that between 50,000 and 80,000 beer cups are used on an AFL game day, while cricket match days see the usage of around 20,000 to 50,000 beer cups.

While ConFlex HeatSeal has already been successfully introduced in the bedding segment by a major Swedish furniture brand, its potential extends far beyond into further applications in industrial and hygiene packaging.

Our paper-based solution offers barrier properties that help the package to deliver comparable shelf life and food protection as traditional aseptic cartons for liquid dairy products, such as milk,” says Giorgio Bosso, CEO, NMS.

To enhance the water resistance of paper-based packaging materials, an emulsion coating with high water resistance properties has been developed for application to these materials. This coating was synthesised using isooctyl acrylate, lauryl methacrylate, styrene, and methacrylic acid as reactive monomers, organosilicone KH151 as a coupling agent, heptadecanol polyoxyethylene ether monophosphate as the emulsifier, and glycerol triglycidyl ether as a post-crosslinking agent.
