Mondi Upgrades its Paper Bags Facility in Hungary

Mondi, leading global packaging and paper group, has successfully completed the implementation of a new state-of-the-art paper sack converting machine at its Nyíregyháza site in Hungary. The machine – a Windmöller & Hölscher AD 8320 / AM 8115 – allows the plant to produce a new line of sophisticated paper sacks for food packaging. The site will be capable of producing more than 130 million sacks annually. The Mondi Nyíregyháza plant, which employs more than one hundred people, serves the Hungarian, Romanian, Austrian and Bulgarian market in many industries and sectors.

Greiner Packaging joins Circular Plastics Alliance

The vision of the Circular Plastics Alliance is to promote a circular economy for plastics and to significantly increase the use of recyclates in new products. The initiative aims at having at least 10 million tons per year available by 2025 and furthermore using them for products and packaging solutions. Greiner Packaging has recently become a member of the alliance and thus contributes its share to the implementation of the project. Together, it is possible to achieve this goal and to work on a functioning circular economy.

Cepac supports getting back to work safely

All companies must consider increased health and hygiene measures upon return to work and the solutions we have developed represent quick, easy-to-use, low cost ways of operating safely under the latest government guidance. Our Hygiene Station enables items such as hand cleansers and wipes to be displayed and dispensed in working environments, where there may not have been a requirement previously. The stations are quick to set up, allowing for multiple items to be displayed. Potentially hazardous waste should of course be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

ANDALTEC WILL DEVELOP SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING WITH ENHANCED PROPERTIES FROM AGRICULTURAL WASTE

Researchers at Andaltec are already working to synthesise biodegradable and compostable plastics, which will be employed as raw materials for food packaging. One of the project’s goals is for these materials to meet the high quality standards required for food preservation. At the same time, these products should be sustainable, something increasingly demanded by customers and companies. A series of final film demonstrators will be developed during the project, having barrier properties against oxygen, steam, fat and microorganisms.

A new ‘OK Compost’ certified label material for thermal applications from Avery Dennison

Jennifer Bijkerk, development engineer, said that the new material addresses a significant shortfall in supply for compostable thermal materials: “Demand for sustainable thermal labels is huge, including compostable labels, and the European EN13432 standard imposes extremely strict requirements before ‘OK Compost’ certification can be awarded by TUV Austria.

Nestlé announces industry's first baby food packaging designed for the future of recycling

In the U.S., the new pouch will be available exclusively on TheGerberStore.com for Gerber's Organic Banana Mango Puree beginning in May 2020. It will be 100% recyclable through Gerber's national recycling program with TerraCycle.

In Finland, the pouch will be available for Piltti's Apple Pear Blueberry Raspberry widely sold in supermarkets.
