The details about the temperature at the time of packaging will soon be removed from the labels of the bottles of edible oil, vanaspati and non-edible vegetable oil. The Department of Legal Metrology has asked the manufacturers to mention the volume and weight of the content instead, a BusinessLine report stated.

Cigarette-makers and tobacco companies (making smoking as well as non-smoking products) in India need to adhere to some changes in packaging and labelling norms set down by the Centre beginning December 1.

According to a notification by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, one of the warning messages should read “Tobacco causes painful death”; while the other one proposed should say “Tobacco users die younger”.

Automotive components, chemicals, DIY products, household appliances, sporting goods…the list of industries and manufacturers that need to package and ship their products reliably and efficiently is virtually endless. This is not by any means a trivial challenge, especially when import regulations or other issues in production and logistics or distribution bring additional complexity. Such issues usually include shipping, storage, safety, or the simple matter of handling of packaging on site.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution on Thursday issued new rules for packaging of electronic goods making the QR code compulsory on the packaging with relevant information for products manufactured on or July 15 onwards.

If not mentioned as a QR code, the information should be part of the packaging, said the rules called the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) (Second Amendment) Rules, 2022, notified by the ministry. These shall come into force right away.
