Blue Diamond introduces almond and oat milk blend

Blue Diamond Growers has added a new product to its Almond Breeze plant milk range, an Almond & Oat Blend drink.

The California-based almond grower said that the new addition to the Almond Breeze range combines the flavour of California almonds with the creaminess of oat milk.

France to ban plastic packaging for fresh produce in new year

Plastic packaging for fresh fruits and vegetables will be banned from January 1 in France as the country phases out single-use plastic. Fresh food producers say, however, that they aren't ready yet as little alternative has been found to replace plastic packaging.

Südpack releases lightweight, maximum-strength fish pack film to fight contamination

Südpack’s new Multifol Extreme packaging film for fishery products combines maximum functionality and minimum added weight, “breaking new ground,” according to the company. 

A high sealing strength and puncture resistance make the film suitable for packaging fatty, protein-rich or sharp-edged products such as fresh or frozen fish like salmon filets, white fish and herring portions. When sealing surfaces are contaminated, the sealing still provides high protection and a low degree of leakage.

ITC's Aashirvaad introduces paper-based packaging on World Earth Day

On Earth Day 2023, here's presenting the Aashirvaad Organic Atta in a new paper-based packaging to help consumers take a step towards a sustainable lifestyle. The new packaging also includes a unique QR code to enhance sourcing traceability, and enables consumers to track the product to the group of farmers from whom the organic raw materials were sourced. Notably, the Aashirvaad Organic Atta is certified organic as per the National Programme for Organic Production of India and as per the National Organic Program of the US.

Crafting a super spud: Researchers set the stage for climate-resistant potato poised to enhance nutrition

Scientists have created a super pangenome that captures the complete genetic diversity across multiple potato species to identify genetic traits that can help improve its resilience and nutritional quality. The researchers analyzed data from public data banks, including gene banks in Canada, the US and Peru. 

The pangenome includes genome sequences of 296 varieties of potatoes and wild versions of 60 species. The researchers note this is the “most extensive collection of genome sequence data for the potato and its relatives to date.”

Upfield teamed up with Quantis, an international sustainability consultancy specialising in Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), to measure its impact on the climate and the environment.

In addition to Flora margarine, Upfield makes more than 100 brands, including Rama, Blue Band, Proactiv, Becel, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, Country Crock and Violife. The company sells its products in more than 95 countries, has 17 manufacturing sites throughout the world and employs more than 4,100 associates.
