Russia is looking for suppliers of packaging for baby food and dairy products due to disruption in supplies caused by the Western sanctions imposed on Moscow, the country’s agriculture minister, Dmitry Patrushev said on Wednesday.

Russia is a major global agriculture producer but the sanctions, imposed by Western countries over the Ukraine crisis, have caused supply disruptions and prompted some foreign suppliers to leave the market.

The trials were held at Tomra’s recycling facility in Germany in September, testing the efficiency of Nextek’s technology in differentiating food packaging from non-food packaging. The separation of food and non-food packaging is necessary for meeting the requirements of the UK and EU Food Standards Authorities.

Citing long-term patient adherence to medication as low as 50%, Cole said by introducing a smart element to their pharmaceutical packaging, companies could incentivize an increase in adherence and thus easily recoup the extra outlay, particularly for high mark-up products.

“With a 1,000% mark up, we can actually afford to spend three times as much on our packaging and get the same amount of income, provided we are getting an improvement in adherence,” he said.

Colgate is rolling out its breakthrough recyclable tube in the U.S. and using a bold message on its package to help get the word out.

Colgate-Palmolive's tube, the first to be recognized by external recycling authorities as recyclable, is made from High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), the same No. 2 plastic used for milk and detergent bottles. The consumer goods giant reported its full year results with an underlying sales growth of 4.5% to €52.4bn; it is Unilever’s fastest underlying sales growth for nine years.

In a statement the company said: “We currently expect very high input cost inflation in the first half of over €2 billion. This may moderate in the second half to around €1.5 billion, although there is currently a wide range for this that reflects market uncertainty on the outlook for commodity, freight and packaging costs.”
