By 2025, Unilever aspires to reach 25% recycled plastic in its packaging portfolio, and to collect and process more packaging than it sells. It is still on track to meet these targets, according to Costa; as of 2023, it reported that 22% of Unilever packaging contained recycled plastic, and that 61% of its product packaging was collected and processed at end-of-life.

Amazon says that it has gotten rid of plastic air pillows at its warehouses.

“As of October 2024, we’ve removed all plastic air pillows from our delivery packaging used at our global fulfillment centers,” the e-commerce giant said in an October 9th blog post.

It’s a welcome change following years of pressure from environmental groups to stop plastic pollution flooding into oceans. The company is still working to reduce the use of single-use plastics more broadly in its packaging.

Delhivery Ltd, a logistics services provider, has introduced a location intelligence solution called 'LocateOne'. This is the company's second software offering on the OS1 platform, following their delivery management solution 'DispatchOne'. LocateOne is an API-based stack that improves address accuracy and reduces fraud for businesses in various sectors. Delhivery aims to become the operating system for commerce and believes the OS1 platform provides an opportunity for businesses to achieve operational excellence.

In a major step forward towards sustainable packaging solutions and environmental responsibility, US online retailer Amazon has replaced 95% of the plastic air pillows from delivery packaging in North America with paper filler. The company is aiming towards a full removal by the end of this year.

Mondi, a top global player in sustainable paper and packaging solutions, has teamed up with CMC Packaging Automation, a leader in fully automated on-demand packaging technology. The e-commerce giant said it is ‘constantly inventing and thinking big to make our packaging small’, and wants to use as little packaging as possible to’ avoid waste, and prioritizing recyclable materials’.

This is part of Amazon’s path to avoid and reduce packaging, a multi-year effort to remove plastic delivery packaging from North America fulfillment centres.

It will avoid nearly 15 billion plastic air pillows annually.
