Let us throw everything that we use today that came in some kind of packaging and then see how does it make any difference to our life? This is the idea I am getting from Packaging Matters!  Look at toiletries, razor blades, toothpaste, beverages, tissues, condoms, juices, colas, Pizza box  and then see how can we live without all that? Are there any better means of carrying that product? Everytime we hear that packaging is adding to the environment waste but parallely we also need to say how it is improving the society/ How it is helping to improve the jobs, improve the economy, feed the hungry at remote places, reducing the waste by way of increasing the shelf life etc. So let us try to give some reasons here everyday. First one I would like to put:

1. Packaging gets you the product that you need

2. Packaging gives you the product which we would not have imagined without this . e.g. All the processed food like peas available throught the year.

Joking seriously, Any  living body who qualified  himself  as  an human being needs packaging . Packaging has accustomed with us in our day to day need. In other words, one has to encounter a packaged product everywhere irrespective of someone's liking or not . Packaging has altogether given a new direction to a human vision of need and consumption . Now you don't have to wait for a complete season to taste a delicious  Matar Paneer   Go out inthe market and ask for a packet of  Safal Matar , and there you are enjoying your mouth-watering dish.   .

4. Packaging is required to restore the technologies applied to different products like wen a food technologist apply a technique to convert tomatoes to ketchups the quality and shelflife of the product can be saved by providing appropriate packaging to the same .....

Packaging is required for all kind of products if you take an example of Orange which is available in the market.  It was pluged  3 - 4 days before, when you buy you can realize the fresh.  How it is still fresh ?  this is because of the packaging.   The outer layer is act as  packaging component.  Reason :1 to reach the product in fresh. Reason 2 :  Transport :  Consider Pizza can we carry a Pizza without box to your home from a Pizza corner.  We need to hold the Pizza to maintain the hot and prevent from pollution Reason 3:  Prevention:  Juice manufacturer should provide to Juice to the customer without any microbial contamination.  They could not able to supply Juice i an bulk tank to particular market and ask all public to buy.  It needs a kind of package to reach the just in healthy condition to the consumer. Reason 4:  Dosage:  Certain type of medicines should be observed only at the stomach to make it possible we need Gelatine as a packaging material and this will get dissolved at stomach and get active  ( Primary packaging material) Reason 5:  Market :  We need to present our product in the market with more eye catching.  It is must to  increase sale on our product.  Decoration and innovative design is important.  also considering the current market trend Offer is must to improve the sale.  if you buy razor 3 blade is free we need to pack blade along with razor. I do agree because of Packaging components the environment is getting contaminated since this is disposed in improper way.  As a Packaging Technologist should think of the environment, material wastage and its cost mainly to prevent the environment. For example:  if you are going to design a package for a Razor we should consider Rigid PVC and a paper board instead of Rigid PET film.  Also considering the size aspect this should be compact and sufficient eye appeal size.  This will save the utilization of material and its cost too. Packaging Technologist should consider Natural available material as first preference instead of using PP bags we should use Jute bags ( will be good for cottage industry) if  just is not in your budget try with wood, paper etc., we can consider any bio material as a first choice.  if you consider this kind of bio material most of the village based cottage industry will develop and we can show a bright light to them. As a second choice we should consider Bio degradable materials like Metal, PP, HIPS, PVC etc., failing these two we should consider non-degradable material this should be based on the sensitivity of the product and its usage. we will discuss later lot of things to be consider and group of peoples should involve themselves to prevent the Green earth as Green.

Packaging is required for communication, during transportation how to handle the product, for user how to use the product and finally how to dispose the packaging material after using the product.

Who needs Packaging? The question as asked by my dear friend Sandeep is very relevant. I am trying to answer. But I am on hold and begun to think to start answering but from Where? It is indeed such interesting, I thought I should answer by asking questions itself i.e. Who does need Packaging ? I want to find out a person who has not used Packaging. Packaging is first hand-shake with the ultimate consumer. Packaging is the need of everyone. Packaging word is derived from PACKAGE i.e. Functions of PACK + AGE are also the reasons                                                                                                                                                    P= Preservation, Protection and Presentation                                                                                                                                     A= Attribution                                                                                                                                                                                                  C= Contain / Container                                                                                                                                                                                 K= Knowledge                       A= Aesthetic                                                                                                                                                                                                   G= Graphic  and                                                                                                                                                                                             E=Economy  In addition to the above, we can say, Packaging for All and All for Packaging. let me try in a lighter vain: a) All those lazy bums who do not want to work in fields,in scorching heat , worrying all the time about watering their plants occasionally manuring them......to get their daily vegetables and fruits. b) Those women who prefer to work and contribute to nations and family development...over the routine .....house hold chorus....some don't encourage. c)Those professionals from sectors like manufacturing, IT,entertainment.......who do not have time and look for convenience to consume to remain alive. d) Young and children who wish to have fun while consuming their daily food. e) Old and in-firm's who need medicine and other life support systems that only packaging can provide. f) Industries who make excellent machines, equipments with demand all over the world but are still researching how to ship them without spending on packaging. ......and so on IMAGINE MODERN LIFE WITHOUT PACKAGING ? IT WILL NOT BE WRONG TO SAY THAT WITHOUT PACKAGING MODERN SOCIETY CAN NOT EXIST. WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS NOT TO ASK "Who needs Packaging" NEED IS TO DEBATE ON WHAT SHOULD BE THE PACKAGING FOR OUR INCLUSIVE GROWTH Cheers! Rajiv

Packaging is visible Atma (soul) to products. So no Atma, no life. In real life, people are declared dead when Atma goes off and so is the case, if packaging goes off the products, they have no value. Hence can you thik of a life without Atma and so is the case How can we think of the products with packaging

8. "If you package right, you can sell just about anything".         This quote goes perfect with packaging irrespective of the product and I'm sure each one of us would agree         with the same

that is right,  right packaging helps you to sell but then for the repeat sales, the product also needs to be right. Many people are using the right packaging to sell the bad products and so the trust of people goes off from the good packaging. I think we also need to find a way to question the product in direct relationship to packaging,  They start doubting the product if they find packaging to be too good. So we also need a balance.

Packaging guide us how to cook our " Ready to cook" food..eg my favourite pilsburry cake. / soups / MTR snacks etc.... Funny to say ...these days it also helps to identify the product. eg...great varieties of cordial / squashes available in market looking of the same color. With Packing label we can identity it is kiwi not cucumber.
