Here is the picture of India's first qualified and trained post graduate packaging technologists. The picture is from  Packaging Digest published by Indian Institute of Packaging, Vol. 15, No. 2  January - March'88 . The first convocation happened at Hotel President, Mumbai and Master's Diploma was to the successful students of the first batch of the two year postgraduate programme in packaging technology. Prof. Ram Meghe, Hon'ble Minister of Education, Govt. of Maharashtra presented the diplomas. Do you remember the students here now? These are 22 years old pictures. This is the shot taken on 1st march 1988.

I am #7 from left in the second standing row from the top. My name is Sandeep Kumar Goyal. You tell me more names whom you can recognise here? Of course, you can see our beloved Dr N G Mokashi quietly sitting at the right most corner in the front with Prof P G Deshmukh.

Do send me some more memories and we would cover up here.

This is how history is created. If we look today it gives a great feeling that how it was visulaised 22 years back that the course will shape up to create a large pool of successful packaging professionals. Also the recognisation to Packaging Technology as a specialised function and integral part of so may organisations. I am trying to guess two more in the picture - Mr. P K Das 4th from left in second row and Mr. Rahul Bhargava 2nd from left on first row. Please correct me if I am wrong. Santosh Das

Yes, that is right how an idea was conceived 22 years back and now the fruits can be seen. Just to correct you, Rahul is the first standing row back, right most 6th.  And PK is the 5th not 4th, 4th is Mr Madhab Chakroborty who is now Dy Director at Indian Institute of Packaging, New Delhi  and also managing PG course at Delhi.

I have recognized a few more people in the pic. Rahul Sir is Standing in the 3rd row, 1st from right. Next to him is Manjir madam.  Das Sir is in the 2nd row, 4th from right & Madab Sir stands next to him (5th from right in the 2nd row). I guess BK Karna Sir Stands 2nd from left in the 2nd row. Hope i am correct. :)

Its a great feeling for all packaging students to see a group of people who laid down the milestone of the PG Diploma in packaging course. Its very difficult to recognise them from this picture since everyone has changed with due course of 23 years except Manjir mam she is still the same- she is standing in the last row 2nd from right and next to her on RHS is Mr. Rahul Bhargava, 4th from left in 2nd row is Madhav sir. But where is Sandeep sir????

Feeling very emotional to see all my classmates and our teachers. My dear Goli, indeed, you have done a great job. This may be a great part for all of us & our Packaging Friends to know about our icons (as in this photographs) of Packaging Institute who had done the great effort to start Packaging Course upto Post Graduate level first time in India / Asia in 1985. Front row ( from Right to Left : DR. N G Mokashi (Our first course co-ordinator),  Shri P G Deshmukh (Head Training), Shri M R Subramanyam (Director-IIP),  I salute our true leaders, Where ever they are, I wish Good Health and Good time. First Packaging Technologist from India, 3 of our classmates could not attend that day, I recall, Goli Correct me, Our brilliant Scholar Bhatta means Aurobindo Bhattacharya, Tony my room partner i.e. V M Vashishtha and our Charlie Pradeep Nayar. I am sad also that Our beloved Classmate and seen in picture just before me from L to R i.e. 1st from 2nd row, Our PD Upadhyay departed for heavenly path last year. His smiling face is with us. Dear Packaging Friends, Sandeep has been connecting us in many ways but this connection, indeed My dear Goli, it is in true sense of PackagingConnections. Good Luck to Packaging Connections. With best wishes to my Juniors and regards to all in general. B K Karna , IIP-Hyderabad
