Dustbins outside Patiala House, New Delhi and Packaging: Who is responsible MCD or NDMC or ???

This is the picture of upside down dustbins outside Patiala House, New Delhi. I think its near Gate#4 which is quite close to India Gate which probably teh cleanest public place in capital and Patiala House is the court complex where criminal cases are discussedto arrive at justice. Outside the gate, you see these two colored Green & Blue dustbins placed by New Delhi by concerned authrities. Now you can see how one can really use these dustbins as they are upside down and the very purpose of dustbins is lost. I had to mee a friend of mine for some legal matter and just passed through this site. i could not stop myself and took a picture. later, on way back, i was thinking that efforts by the government are not meeting the purpose and probablt these dustbins are not practical to handle to empty. They need to be locked below so that these do not turn upside down.

While thinking about it, I think we at packaging can offer a solution. The solution could be that collapsible & disposable biodegradable boxes are kept here. Those boxes can be picked up by the concerned team and replaced everyday by the new ones. So they do not have to deal with emptying them, They can just pick them, carry them and dump at the appropriate places nicely without worrying about dealing so much with the filth. Its the great job they do for the society, let us think of giving them some breather!

This is a classic case of a good intention gone wrong because of faulty implementation . It is not enough to have a good idea . The Govt should have the foresight to allocate enough resources to implement and follow through the good ideas Cheers

Well said, good intentions but poor implementation! I think Govet shoudl also first make sure that atleast outside government buildings, offices, places like court complexes in Lutyens zone are followed through. Its just not enough to say that we have placed the bins. Nothing moves without good leadership and same way here, there has to be clear cut leadership. I can see the difference in Mumbai after the clean Mumbai drive, I had been visiting Mumbai for last 20 years and can see the good improvement in last about 18 months. Congrats to Mumbaikars!

while I wrote this and was quite disappointed. I noticed during my trip in Madrid for CPHI, that even the developed nations in Europe are also not behind but only the degree varies. I took a city tour in a double decker bus and the tour operator gave head sets to listen to the city commentary in our preferred language. When the bus reached at one of their main stops next to Ritz hotel, I say the mountain of discarded red headsets thrown on the top of the tourism office roof and many of those hanging on the trees. This definitely did not look nice in the beautiful Madirid

Why were they up side down? The biodegradable boxes are a great idea although a bit of a waste when you consider having to produce them and the cost of that then to throw them away afetr one use.
