Siegwerk Expands Coating Expertise with Allinova Acquisition

In a decisive move to strengthen its footprint in the packaging coatings market, Siegwerk Druckfarben AG & Co. KGaA has acquired Allinova, a Netherlands-based specialty chemicals producer renowned for its advanced coating solutions. This strategic step brings Siegwerk closer to its vision of becoming a global leader in circular and digital packaging solutions.

Allinova, headquartered in Hengelo, boasts exceptional technical expertise in water-based dispersions, alongside a strong product range that includes polymer dispersions, wax emulsions, adhesives, flame retardants, repellents, and crosslinkers. This acquisition will allow Siegwerk to integrate Allinova’s high-performance coating technologies with its own extensive market knowledge and international reach delivering advanced, application-specific solutions that meet the evolving needs of packaging converters, papermills, and film manufacturers worldwide.

“Allinova’s solutions fit perfectly into our portfolio and accelerate our mission to provide innovative and sustainable coating solutions for the global packaging market,” said Gilles Le Moigne, Business Head of Circular Economy Coatings at Siegwerk.

Founded in 2005 by Gijs Elfrink, Allinova initially focused on flame retardants and wax emulsions, later expanding its portfolio under the joint leadership of Bob Horsthuis to include a broad mix of dispersions and specialty chemicals. Both Elfrink and Horsthuis will remain part of the team post-acquisition, ensuring continuity in innovation and expertise.

This move follows Siegwerk’s establishment of a Global Business Unit for Functional Coatings in April 2024, designed to drive sustainable packaging innovations in line with a Circular Economy. By bringing Allinova’s specialized capabilities onboard, Siegwerk is reinforcing its position as an enabler of next-generation, eco-friendly packaging solutions.

“With Allinova joining Siegwerk, we are not just adding technical know how we are accelerating our capacity to deliver cutting-edge, sustainable coatings that pave the way for future packaging innovations,” said Nicolas Wiedmann, CEO of Siegwerk.

The acquisition also builds on Siegwerk’s recent growth strategy, which includes targeted investments like the 2022 acquisition of La Sorgente, a key Italian flexographic ink supplier. Each move solidifies Siegwerk’s ambition to be the go-to full-range provider of inks and coatings for packaging across flexible, paper, and board applications.

In short: Siegwerk’s purchase of Allinova is more than just an acquisition it’s a bold step toward redefining the future of sustainable packaging coatings on a global scale.
