KM Packaging introduces 4G low seal initiation lidding film for food industry

The K-Peel 4G film is engineered to provide clean peels at temperatures as low as 110°C with a dwell time of just 0.3 seconds. This characteristic makes it compatible with a wide range of PET trays, including those made from recycled PET (rPET) and post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials. The film's ability to perform well under varying conditions, including thickness and available sealing area, addresses common challenges faced by food manufacturers.

Alan Lockhart, commercial director for the UK and Ireland at KM Packaging, highlighted the film's versatility, stating that its low seal initiation temperature allows for broad application across the food industry. “The adaptability of 4G is what sets it apart from the rest,” he said, highlighting its potential to streamline packaging processes.

K-Peel 4G is suitable for a variety of food applications, including ambient, chilled and frozen products. Its ovenable properties, combined with anti-fog capabilities, make it a practical choice for diverse packaging needs. The film complies with OM7 migration testing, ensuring safety and performance across multiple food types.

The film is available in two thicknesses: 21 microns and 25 microns. The option for a lower gauge is particularly appealing to manufacturers seeking to reduce material usage without compromising on performance, aligning with sustainability goals in the industry.

As the food packaging sector faces increasing scrutiny from regulations such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), the K-Peel 4G film stands out for its efficiency and lightweight characteristics. Lockhart remarked on the relevance of PET-based films in the current regulatory landscape, asserting that their benefits in terms of usability and performance ensure they remain a valuable option for tray sealing and lidding applications.

Short Description
KM Packaging has introduced a new lidding film specification, K-Peel 4G, designed to meet the evolving needs of the food packaging sector. This mono PET film features a low seal initiation point, enabling it to seal effectively even in the presence of contamination, a significant advancement for manufacturers looking to enhance efficiency and product integrity.
