Tesco makes 'dramatic change' to the way it sells avocados to cut back on plastic use

Tesco has told customers: "Avocado fans will notice some dramatic changes when they pick up one of Britain’s most popular salad items at Tesco."

The supermarket will be removing the barcode on Tesco's extra large avocados and swapping it for a bold laser etching.

The swap aims to "help the environment" and cut back on plastic use. It has not been made a permanent fixture though: the laser etchings will just be a trial.

It features sleeve openings and high-quality printing area. The packaging’s highly resistant design is reportedly the result of research and development geared to the needs of processors, retailers and consumers alike.

Bollegraaf, Greyparrot partner to boost AI capabilities in MRFs

  • Recycling equipment company Bollegraaf has entered into a strategic partnership with Greyparrot, an AI waste analytics company, in an effort to provide AI capabilities to more MRF equipment.
  • Bollegraaf will invest $12.8 million in Greyparrot, obtaining a non-controlling stake in the company.

Amazon is getting rid of plastic packaging

Amazon plans to fully remove plastic air pillows from packaging in North America by the end of the year, the company announced Thursday.

Amazon previously had announced such a plan last year, but hadn’t set a date.

The company already has replaced 95% of its plastic air pillows in North American packaging with paper filler.

PepsiCo partners with GreenDot Group to enhance plastic recycling for snack packaging

GreenDot, known for its comprehensive plastic circularity solutions, has been expanding its sorting and recycling operations in Germany and has recently developed additional facilities in Austria and Italy. The group's portfolio now includes advanced recycling techniques to supply circular polymers to brands and converters.

Eastman, Sealed Air partner to develop certified compostable protein trays as an alternative to polystyrene trays

Eastman and Sealed Air are pleased to announce the launch of a compostable,¹ lightweight tray designed as a drop-in replacement for traditional polystyrene foam trays in protein packaging that can work on existing, industrial food packaging equipment. The tray is already successfully performing in several market applications. Sealed Air introduced its CRYOVAC® brand compostable overwrap tray to the market in January.

American Packaging Corporation Announces Another "Design for Recycle" Package

APC partnered with produce processors to replace their current non-recyclable, multi-material laminate. The primary objective was to develop a recycle-ready package option that maintained production throughputs while resisting product puncturing due to the sharp edges of the packaged product. The package format included a pillow bag with a fin-seal produced on intermittent and continuous motion VFFS equipment at speeds up to 90 packages per minute.
