Sugarcane Juice Packaging? How to do it?
Recently , I had sugarcane juice on my way to Baddi. While enjoying the juice, suddenly a question emerges that " Why dont we pack sugarcane juice". Why it has not been done till now?. Being a Packaging Technologist, I was scratching my mind in different direction to get an answer.I have compiled the following possibilites but would like your comments :
1. Product Characteristics which is difficult to process. Color changes with time , charring etc?
2. It is easily available everywhere at a cheap rate. Cunsumer might not be intersted to pay more for packaging than product.?

thank you but what are the challenges you see in this/ One challenge that I know that sugar inside would get caramalised when we would heat up say for retorting
We never find sugercane
We never find sugercane juice in hygenic manner anywhere.... whereas all other juices are found in both packed and open manner... People are buying. Many people will be interested to have sugercane juice in packed way... maybe they are not enjoying it due to unhygenic manner of availablity.Secondly, change of color maybe due to atmosphere, which can be controled by applying some freindly chemical gases.I appriciate your way of thinking.Regards.Raj Luthra
Hi everybody,Incidently i
Hi everybody,Incidently i was also planning to setup a plant for sugar cane juice but according to a food consultant preserving cane juice for more than 10 days is not possible as there is no such technology developed to do so. unlike other fruit juices this juice has no acidic content hence it cannot be preserved with sodium benzoate. I am still searching for an alternative to preserve it will update you as soon as i get any more details. 2ndly i feel that people would definately pay more if they get a hygenic cane juice. that is because today everybdy is concerned about their health. If this wasnt the case then people would not be paying for other packed juices inspite of their cheap availability.
Hi Nishesh,there is a
Hi Nishesh, there is a technology which can be used to pack Sugar cane juice, although the acidic content is negligible. You can pack juices in Gable top cartons (like Dabur juices) not asceptically though but by using gentle pasturtisation (as done for milk).Let me know your thoughts about this.Prasad0044 7917898354.
dear sir, there is a

If people can buy Water
If people can buy Water Bottle for Hygenic reason why not Packed Sugarcane Juice. Details on Preservation needs to be explored.
We have the ideal solution
We have the ideal solution for packaging sugarcane juice - simply, econonimically and hygienically at Point Of Sale. The cost is low enough for the vendor to pass on to the consumer. aThe technology is very simple. Our prototype is ready. Just waiting to receive some materials for the containers. We have unfortunately missed this season, but for summer 2012 - this would be the right time for planning a large launch of the system all over Norh India
that is great but what is

Dear All,A very good
Dear All,A very good conversation on this:Even I am interested, would like to chip in some paramters that have to be looked out for:As said:1) Color2) PH3) Barrier ReqBy using hurdle technology we have now a solution for Dosa batter, idly batter, coconut water etc and this is similar but much more compligated but achievable. Here we need to act on each of the hurdle by a probable solution of maintaining it. Raw sugarcane juice is a
Raw sugarcane juice is a carbohydrate-rich, low acid food and is therefore susceptible to the growth of molds and yeasts, of spoilage bacteria and also of pathogenic bacteria. Therefore, such freshly crushed juice cannot be preserved even for a few hours as it is known to ferment very quickly. It turns sour and will taste horrible.
HI, Thanks to all for your
