I would like to thanks Sandeep, who share packaging connection information to me. Fantastic and creative initiative taken by him. Packaging connection is like we are sitting round the table and
Tea Packaging
Tea Bags – Tea does not have such a strong aroma as Coffee. The oxygen barrier is not crucial, still PET is preferred in the segment. Needs comment

Dear SirIn tea aroma barrier
Dear SirIn tea aroma barrier is not so Critical. But again as pouching is done here, so Toughness is required for the film. BOPP film will produce wrinkles during pouching as it is not so tough. Beside this we use coated paper laminated with Poly also for small pouch of tea as you can see in Alkozay green tea, Lipton and Twings.Pl. revert with your feedback.RegardsBadal
Dear Badal,As far as the
Dear Badal,As far as the issue of wrinkles during pouching with BOPP is concerned you can use BOPP films having high stiffness. Max offer this product. For small pouch pack instead of using coated paper laminated with LD you can use mono layer of Max Polypaper. Max Polymer is printable and sealable.
Dear Sir, It was reply to
Dear Sir, It was reply to your question that why PET is still preffered. BOPP special Grade is available to you. But still we have to see the Cost Comparison and Yield benefit B/w PET, BOPP, and Paper/ LD laminate. We have to also see the end use application. Moreover slowly and slowly People are shifting to the BOPP fims with the availabilty of Films for particular application. If you will offering the cost benefit to the end user with the same properties , people can certainly shift to BOPP. As Earlier mentioned in my post that already in tea packaging Metallized BOPP is used. Pl. have your say and if you can share the prices in terms of % of cost benefit, then you are welcome for this as More and more will be benefitted from this as Beverage market has huge potential customer with the advent of Green tea, flavoured tea and different SKU used in packaging.
PET gives good aroma barrier
PET gives good aroma barrier and also protects the contents from picking up other bad odour like soap smell etc in the retails from the products kept next to tea packets. BOPP can also be used but then it has to have some barrier coatings like PVdC.
To add up to this the main
To add up to this the main problem with tea is taint pick up for which we use PET and there is a very good oppurtunity to use PP but needs to have good machinery. As far as flavored tea is concerned depends on the ingredients which you are using for flavor I feel foil can be removed for TEA as it doesnt require a high level of barrier.
Dear sirwe are using al foil
Dear sirwe are using al foil for our flovour tea, can by using max poly paper we will able to remove the AL foil. can you able to provide the data sheet of max poly paper
Moreover BOPP is also used
Moreover BOPP is also used for Tea packing. Metallized printed BOPP also used for tea packing. Here Tea bags are first kept in Ivory Board / Food board Carton then it is wrapped by Metallized printed wrapper. e.g. Lipton Tea bags. RegardsBadal
resp sirwhy pet is prefered
resp sirwhy pet is prefered in tea ? answser is that adhesion of pet with pe is excellent than opp to pe.also pet has easy processability over opp ,it was prefered to use opp than pet as opp has advantage over cost ,yield and mvtr but all converter in india r using pet from long years thay have some negative attitude towards opp. Main reson for this attitude is because of low density of opp converter getting low output and also he has high ink consumption than pet films.Ink consumption is higher because converter has to print more area than pet as yield of opp is more.as mostly packaging materials are sold in kg basis converter prefer pet.as per converters view they get less converting cost per kg but as per customer point of view it is loss to end user. And most of our industry is dominated by 5 to 6 converters thay have heavy monopoly over end users so pet is getting used in india.but in europian contries tea is packed in opp /paper/pe or,opp/pe resp sir if need more information u can contact on sancheti333@gmail.com
Dear Sancheti,We have
Dear Sancheti,We have replaced printable and middle layer polyester film with our transparent and special metallised BOPP respectively. We have checked the bond strength of BOPP based structure and found it is similar to PET base structure. Converter and brand owener prefer to use 10 micron PET as printable layer, yield is 72 sq. mtr/kg. And as a relacement they use 15 micron OPP, yield is 73 sq. mtr/kg. In above case both have same sq.mtr so the printable area is also same. Thanks,
can we use met.bopp as
can we use met.bopp as an intermediate layer for coffee and agarbathi packing
Dear Mr. R.
Dear Mr. R. Srinivasan,Agarbathies are normally packaged in paper board cartons and POLY bags. Surly we can use high barrier Met BOPP for the purpose. For coffee packaging trials can be taken with high barrier metallised BOPP.I would like to share with you that Max's sandwich lamination high barrier grade metallised BOPP is successfully being used by many converters for Shampoo, Snacks & Gutka laminates. We can offer you this product and technical support if required. Please let us know current structure in use and your requirement. Regards,Sanjiv Yadav.
for coffee and agarbatti u
for coffee and agarbatti u can use met.bopp as an middle layer.because main purpose of middle layer is to give barrier propertise.if u use first layer as an pet middle layer as an met bopp and sealing layer as an PE it becomes best structure as an propety wise and costing wise also.as pet gives best OTR, BOPP gives best MVTR and PE gives excellent sealing property.so it make sence to replace MET PET by MET BOPP,as cost of MET BOPP is 47 % less than MET PET.
