PACKAGINGCONNECTIONS: Please provide a short write up on your work profile related to Packaging.
Department of Printing Technology is the premier department in India to start B. Tech. in Packaging Technology. This particular course is designed to produce quality technocrats for the packaging industry in India and abroad. The course curriculum is prepared in consultation with the experts in this field and greater emphasis is also given for practical component. Being head of the department, I am putting my best effort to enrich the course content and encouraging the students to be creative especially in package design.
PACKAGINGCONNECTIONS:What are your key challenges at work and what would you want to change in packaging industry.
As the course is unique in many respects, the greatest challenge before us is to identifying key resource persons for delivering expert lectures in the emerging areas related to packaging and allied fields. Packaging industry is growing at a constant pace. I along with my other faculty members are putting extra efforts in terms of establishing state-of -art facilities in the department to impart quality practical exposure to the students which will be of direct benefit to the prospective industries. Any suggestion in this regard is welcome from the experts in packaging industry.
PACKAGINGCONNECTIONS: Where do you see your organization in 5 years in relation to packaging industry
As the packaging industry is growing day by day and the technological developments in this field is also a major factor, in order to take care of such things our department will certainly play a vital role and after five years our department will be the center of attraction for the packaging technologists.
PACKAGINGCONNECTIONS: Could you share with us your plans for the future
1. To update the course curriculum as per the needs of the packaging industry from time to time.
2. To establish high quality laboratories and workshops in packaging technology, especially package production and material testing.
3. To strengthen industry and institute interface activities.
4. To organize workshops and seminars in special areas of packaging in consultation with the industry.
PACKAGINGCONNECTIONS: What are three important tenets (Principles) that you work by when beginning a new packaging project?
1. Innovative packaging medium to suit the product to be packed.
2. Cost effectiveness.
3. Extending the shelf life of the product along with ease of recycling of the package after its use.
Section III – Opinion on packaging industry.
PACKAGINGCONNECTIONS: What are the key success factors for suppliers in packaging industry?
In my opinion following points are to be taken into account:
1. In time delivery of the raw materials.
2. Tested and certified materials at the suppliers end.
3. Providing more options along with cost competitiveness.
PACKAGINGCONNECTIONS What are the challenges of customers in the packaging industry
1. More options along with price war among the packaging industry.
2. Huge packaging design with higher color gamut which was not available in the past.
3. More options in terms of packaging medium.
PACKAGINGCONNECTIONS What are the recent trends in packaging industry that has impacted the market more than others.
1. Introduction of digital printing.
2. Enlarged color gamut.
3. Active and smart packaging.
PACKAGINGCONNECTIONS: Where do you see packaging industry in 5 years from now?
Bright future and penetration of packaged products to the remote areas in India in coming five years.
