Mr. Jignesh Shah

Due to intense competition in the end user market, there is a need to adopt machineries and equipments having better technology & low running cost.”

Packaging Connections:What is your educational background? How did you get involved in the Packaging industry?
Mr. Jignesh:Graduate in Commerce with vast experience in Paper Industry, especially of family run Paper Mill. Have ventured in to Recycling business during the year 1999 where the raw material used is Multi-Layer Packaging scrap generated by packaging industry.

Packaging Connections:Your key activities at work? What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Mr. Jignesh:Developing innovative products through latest technology but suiting indigenous requirements. The most rewarding part of the work is when such products are introduced and recognized by Indian industry for one application or the other on a continuous basis.

Packaging Connections:What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Mr. Jignesh: There has been cost over runs due to project delays for one reason or the other. There has been also other unexpected cost push on account of currency fluctuation and increase in prices of petroleum products. The challenges that we faced were fine tuning the available technology to suit local operating requirements of a medium level enterprise, continuity in raw material availability. Most of these have been dealt through systematic planning and through de-risk strategies.

Packaging Connections: Your key achievements?
Mr. Jignesh:Introduction of India’s First Recycled Composite Board as replacement to wood and wood based products & recognizing its continuous use by leading Indian Industry. These Composite Boards are manufactured from Multi-Layer packaging waste Material arising from Packaging Industry. Most scrap materials we use for our process are otherwise not easily recyclable in traditional recycling process & otherwise end up in Dumping Grounds. In a way we are pioneers in recycling of Multi layer Packaging Waste

Packaging Connections: What is one thing about the industry that you would change?
Mr. Jignesh:Fragmented structure

Packaging Connections: What are your views on the status of the packaging industry in India? What is the way forward?
Mr. Jignesh:Last one decade or so experienced significant growth opportunities & emergence of new products and technology in packaging. To cite examples, metal cans & glass bottles have been replaced by rigid & flexible packing, flexible packaging has seen so much innovation that rigid packaging is now being replaced by flexible packaging. The aluminum collapsible tube has almost entirely been replaced by lamitube and has since made in road to pharmaceutical sector in a big way. PET bottles have almost revolutionized the Indian market by replacing metal and glass. The Indian packaging industry is growing at 15%. The Industry is fragmented with almost 60% requirement being fed from unorganized sector. Increased investments by Indian and Foreign companies in areas of food processing, especially beverages, dairy products, processed food, edible oil, & marine products expanded the market for high end packaging. So is the boom in retail segment. Due to intense competition in the end user market, there is a need to adopt machineries and equipments having better technology & low running cost.

Packaging Connections: Could you share with us your key plans for the future?
Mr. Jignesh:We are in the business of manufacturing composite boards in our Recycling Facility where packaging scrap is used as raw material. Our key plan is to expand our current production volumes there by reduce consumption of wood and wood based products and thus save natural resources.

Packaging Connections: What has been your biggest challenge? How did you overcome?
Mr. Jignesh:The biggest challenge for us has been the availability of the right quality and quantity of raw material for our recycling facility at competitive prices. We are expanding our sourcing activities and are yet to overcome this challenge.

Packaging Connections: What are three important tenets that you work by when beginning a new packaging project?
Mr. Jignesh:The Technology should address future requirements. The customer preferences are continually changing & hence should offer adoptability. All decisions to be sustainable

Packaging Connections: Your packaging dream?
Mr. Jignesh:Of material fully and completely recyclable and thus save environment.
