Packaging Connections: What is your educational background? How did you get involved in the Packaging industry?
Dr. Lakshmi: I Dr. S. Lakshmi Devi am a M.Sc., Ph. D in Botany from University of Delhi. Well, I am the Principal of Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences For Women, University of Delhi and run a B.Sc Honours course in Food Technology. I am also the President of AFST(I) Delhi Chapter. Some of our students after completion of B.Sc pursue the post-graduate diploma in packaging from IIP. We also do microbiological testing of packaging materials in our college if the industry approaches us.
Packaging Connections: Your key activities at work? What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Dr. Lakshmi: Teaching students, conducting workshops for students on various aspects of applied sciences as I am also Hony. Director of Centre For Entrepreneurship and Career Oriented Programs University of Delhi.
Packaging Connections: What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Dr. Lakshmi: There incidental costs when we hold functions in college.
Packaging Connections: Your key achievements?
Dr. Lakshmi: Establishing the college of Applied sciences for Women.
Packaging Connections: What is one thing about the industry that you would change?
Dr. Lakshmi: I can only train students make them quality conscious so that when they join the industry they are able to maintain the quality.
Packaging Connections: What are your views on the status of the packaging industry in India? What is the way forward?
Dr. Lakshmi:Packaging industry is doing a wonderful job. However, why make students do a diploma in packaging there should be a post graduate degree program in packaging and especially in food packaging.
Packaging Connections: Could you share with us your key plans for the future?
Dr. Lakshmi: We are planning if we can make our courses B.Sc. Honours courses as four years program.
Packaging Connections: What has been your biggest challenge? How did you overcome?
Dr. Lakshmi: Establishing the college. I overcame the challenge by dedication and devotion to duty and surrendering to the almighty.
Packaging Connections: What are three important tenets that you work by when beginning a new project?
Dr. Lakshmi:
o Making a goal
o Planning for achieving it
o Executing it
Packaging Connections: Your packaging dream?
Dr. Lakshmi: I am sure the packaging industries will use attractive and safe packaging materials so that the consumers are not only happy buying the product but also sure that the quality of the product will be good.
