Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam (Former President of India) Addressed Annual Convocation of IIP Mumbai on 4th Nov ’08
Mr. Rajiv Dhar, IIP Director introduced Dr. APJ Kalam to alumini at IIP by saying that he is the role model not only for many of us but also for our children at home. When Mr. Dhar met him in the office. Dr. Kalam's first question was what he can do for him? At that moment Mr. Dhar explained that he has read and heard that he spoke on missiles, social concern, value, education, but never on packaging why? Mr. Dhar could see shy on his eyes and smile on the face. Dr. Kalam emphasized the importance of packaging industry for the growth of India in his speech and requested IIP to come up with innovative solution for rural employment.
Dr. Kalam also responded to the following packaging issues:-
1. Mr. Sandeep Goyal, IIP Alumini president & founder of packagingconnections.com asked him “What is the biggest packaging opportunity & also the challenge for India?”
Dr. Kalam replied that the two industries are coming up in big way; one is “Packaging for Pharma Products”. He explained in length how counterfeit medicines are creating the problems with innocent lives. This is also a challenge and packaging can help. He gave examples from across the country and also explained that the pharma industry is developing well in India.
Second is “Public Distribution & EDA system”. He said IT product, Integrated Software Hardware is one of the biggest challenge in India for which Punjab & Haryana are taking the harder steps.
2. One student asked him “Tell us one thing that you think all Indian youth should do for the country”.
Dr. Kalam said: Have confidence.
